P08 Grip Cleaning Help Pleaae
Can anyone offer some advice on the best, but most safest way to clean the crud from the right side of this byf42 BW grip? Amazingly the left grip is great, but I was told the right grips often faired much worse. Thanks for any advice you can offer, Gentlemen.

I use a toothbrush, warm water and Dawn dish washing soap to clean grips. Just don't get the wood saturated with water. And scrub very gently with the toothbrush. When the suds turn brown, rinse and repeat. Don't over do it.
Sponge off excess water with paper towels. Let them dry naturally, and apply about three light coats of Danish Furniture oil. The base ingredient is Tung oil, so regular Tung oil would probably work fine. I dab it on with cotton balls. Just remember, lightly, don't over due it. DON'T use linseed. It will darken and soften the wood. It saturates and separates the wood fibers. Ron |
Thanks Ron very much, these are black plastic grips, would the same still apply? Thank you once again for helping,

Hi Joe,
I don't see why it wouldn't. You could also clean them with denatured alchohol. I would rinse them afterward. Ron |
Just as Ron said, although I have used Murpheys Oil soap. I lightly clean thme, and if really nasty, put oil soap right onto the grips and mush it around.
I have also, on really bad grips use goopy orange paint remover, this is a last step, as it is tough on the wood. ed |
Thank you Gentlemen!!

tac,
A friend and I once killed a bottle of Wild Turkey in an evening on an Elk hunting trip. I'll have to say that I felt pretty "de-natured" for a day or two afterward. Ron |
Wild Turkey is the drink of the Devil.
Stick to good German Bier, and give a toast to all the builders and previous owners of our fine Lugers. Leave the rotgut to the owners of the Lesser Guns. |
