Markings on Erfurt 1918
Gentlemen,
I am not too familiar with the various acceptance and other stamps found on Lugers - but I am working on them. These markings are found on the right side of the receiver on my Erfurt 1918, serial # 77XX O. I'm particularly interested in the top one, the crowned RC. This pistol has seen WW2 British/SOE service, can it possibly be a British stamp? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...8/P1070345.jpg Balder |
This is a quote from our book, Simson Lugers, it speaks of the eagle RC after this part (seen on Simson lugers)

Edward,
What can I say but "Wow!". It took all of eight minutes from asking the question to get a very thorough and accurate answer. The Internet is an awesome place for any collector, especially when people are as forthcoming as on this forum - my favorite gun forum. Thank you very much! I can't help wonder about and question the thinking of a military entity that not only took the trouble of creating a sort of "B-team" of Lugers; it also took the additional trouble of stamping the gun accordingly just to make damn sure that the poor guy whose life may depend on that very gun knew that is was second rate. "Oh sh**, I got an RC!" Or am I far off here? Balder |
