Luger Ammo.
 

I need the straight skinny from some knowlegeable Luger guys. What is the best commercially available 9mm. ammo from your experiences to feed reliably in our lugers? (manufacturer, load, bullet, etc) I called the "Old Western Scrounger" but they were no help, heck they did'nt even know that the Luger required a little hotter load. I have one I shoot exclusively and would like to draw upon your experiences. Thanks in advance!

I am told that 124gr FMJ will load the most reliably. I have only used Winchester and Federal.

I have used many types of rounds over the years, with round nosed feeding almost reliably, but obviously not to depend your life on. PMC shoot fine, I personnaly have never noticed a difference in 115 grain vs. 124 grain, but when I bought a 1,000 rounds, I bought 124.


I have shot Winchester Silver Tip hollow points and they shot superbly (sp?) through my Arty, I don't think I have tried them through my Mauser.


I know that Germany and some other countries have used truncated (slightly conical towards the tip, rather than the normal FMJ look), but most countries have stuck with the FMJ we are used to.


I still have one box of sub-machinegun 9mm and they are pretty hot, but they fed really well through my Arty, I imagine the pressures go up in using something like that.


I did reload about 10 years ago trying 88 or 90 grain fmj(or something like that)and they fed BAD, so the shorter bullet is not recommended by me.

My luger likes CCI Blazer and Winchester 115 gr just fine. I have had a little less luck with the Remington 115 gr, and lousy luck with the S&B 115 gr. S&B loads their 9mm a little hotter, and the cartridge also has a slightly longer overall length.

I use nothing but original Wehrmacht issue, and I still have a few cases left. My experience has been that it is quite reliable, but the 1941 issue seems to work best. I don't use 1944 ammo, as it tends to vary from one lot to another. It also permanently gets rid of that ugly mirror shine in the bore.

are you shooting up collector grade ammo? I can't even imagine the money that you have burned using this practice. Collectors will pay dearly for ammunition that matches their guns...


You could probably replace your ammo supply with one that is two or three times larger if you sell off your old WW2 ammo...


To each his own, but I sure can't see the logic in what you profess that you are doing...

Don't you think that Lorenzo is pulling our leg? My suspicions were aroused by the fact that his ammo gets rid of that ugly shiny look in the bore. Also, he doesn't have an e-mail address or a profile posted. Hmmm....
