newbi help id luger po8

Hello every one need some help to id luger po8. 655 on right above trigger stamped three times, serial #1509 09 on small parts, 36 on slide in three places also large 42. 1940 on receiver right behind barrel. 1509 and 8,82 on bottom of barrel. brown plastic grips. magazine 3547 with a reverse u and number 63 thanks for your help in advance.

It sounds like you have a Mauser (code 42). 655 I think is the waffenamt mark.

36? By "slide" do you mean the toggle train? The 36 meaning those parts were from another pistol, so it sounds like you have a shooter.

Brown plastic grips? sounds like a east german rework. Other members can help you further if needed, and will correct me if I am wrong about anything.

Regards,
Rylan

Brown plastic/bakelite grips are a correct variation on 42/1940's. They are not common but do show up from time to time. Photos would help.

Hello Luger Forum. Sorry for the wrong terminology. Serial number 1509 and all parts on left side of gun match with 09 stamp. On toggle train gun has 36 stamped three times with a larger 42 in middle. Gun also has 1509 on barrel and the part in front of trigger guard. Gun is machined for stock and has lanyard ring. Also has brown plastic grips. Thanks again I hope this helps.

value of luger

This luger has matching numbers except the toggle train which is stamped with a 36. Does this hurt the value?. If so how much is it worth and is it a shooter or colectable? I have been offered 700.00 but feel it is worth more and am not planning to sell anyway. Corrosion on right side of gun cleaned up since pics. Thanks lugeral

This gun was given to me by my mother in law. She was offered 700.00 I left this info out before, since she gave me the gun and I like lugers and the history involved with them thats why I said I didnt want to sell it. This offer was made before I inherited this gun she told me about it. This being my only luger I will use it to learn from and help me make a sound purchase should I want another. The info and people on this site are very helpfull. Thanks for your time. lugeral

I would be very interested in seeing clear closeup photos of the inside of these brown grips... the possibility exists that they are originally Krieghoff grips which would raise the value of what you own considerably... Krieghoff grips are a premium item, and yours are in good shape.

I am not an expert on Krieghoff Grips, but these look like genuine KH grips to me. I suggest you post these photos in the Krieghoff forum and as the experts there for their opinion. There is a pair like this on ebay right now and the buy it now price is $499.99... Good luck.

Yes the grips were the first thing I noticed when the pictures were posted.. My first thought was Kriegoff as well.. I am no expert either.. but they look legit to me. overall a very nice Shooter! congrats!
