Finnish Luger with Unit Disk?
Anyone have a Finnish Luger WITH unit disk? How much does this add to the value? What if it were with a matching m39 (both shared the same unit disks)? Value/rarity?
I heard some fellas talking at a gunshow this weekend, figured I'd ask. Thanks! |
A Finn disk, just the disk without grips or Luger, just sold on eBay for $255. Hard to find in the US.
You only need to post an inquiry in one of the topics. Posting multiple times does not enhance your chances of an answer and it results in splitting up responses. |
Ron is correct about the disk! Weapons rarely leave with them still in place.
Over the years I have seen 25 or 30 M1 Garands with the cut-out in the end of the pistol grip for them and not a single disk. It was a bit frustrating to see a perfect M1 (with a great matched cartouche stock) only to find a cut-out for a disk. |

There is one ending on ebay soon, from whom I got my disc;
Here is my finn luger, 5 inch holster... |
Nice piece of quarter sawn oak as well!

Here is the link to the recent ebay ad...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...0%3D%26fvi%3D1 You might want to email him to see if he could locate another for you... This one on eBay looked new/clean...wonder if they are newly made or period-correct ? http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/fin_disk.jpg |
Fair enough on the double post. I originally posted it there, but then figured it may be better here. It's not a pure unit disk question, as it is more of a value question.
So any ideas how much a unit disk original to the luger with a m39 from the same unit, disk also original to the m39, would go for? From best I can tell, if a unit disk is worth $225, and a Finn luger is worth $950, then it becomes a $1175. Same goes for a m39. If a m39 is worth $250 and it adds $225 or a unit disk then it's worth $475. So a combined value for the two is perhaps $1175+$475=$1650, which adds no bonus for them being a pair from the same unit. So maybe pad it by $100 to keep it as a pair, and make it $1750 for the couple? Sound right? Or am I way off? |
Btw ed, that's a beauty.

You would want to make sure the disk is not a fake, and below are some comments by someone who would be considered an expert on Finnish Mosin Nagants. Mauser720 - Ron "These discs were dropped on most rifles around the time of the Winter War, as rifles that were captured gave too much information to the enemy. Some disks did survive but it is not common to locate rifles that still have these in place. It is most common to see such discs in M27 rifles. One might also see such a filled hole in areas of the stock where that could not have had a stock disc. In most cases this is a Finnish repair of stock damage. The repair is very common and almost looks like dark wood putty. "Did the Finns use stock discs post war? "Yes they did but again the use was not common. War era discs will be brass in look and color while the post war discs look like aluminum. In many cases these post war discs are artillery units the most common being 2.PSTO KAR PR. which is the 2nd Karelian Artillery Brigade these discs as far as I know being seen only on M39's. I have never seen a wartime M39 stock disc as it seems the Finns banned the use of these discs before M39 production got underway as a security measure. What is not known is why the practice was once again undertaken post war." http://mosinnagant.net/finland/finnfaq.asp |

There is a guy in PA stamping out these disc's and larger other types with Waa stamps . Be CAREFUL . I have seen some of the examples. he has not yet quite figgered out how to age them. But give him some time . Im trying to get the name of the "Gent" no luck yet but will post if I do. The ones I have seen are excellent fakes. The one type Pete posted is one of them. There are other types as well.

Hmm, the guy I'm dealing with is from PA....

The one on ebay I think is Juha, and he is trustworthy and a member of this forum.
My disc came from him (Juha) and is of a school unit, which would not surprise me for still existing. Ed |
Different guy.

ahhh, thanks, will keep that in mind,
