My Grandfather passed down a German Luger to me before his death, and I have no idea what date or model it is please help. I have more pics if needed. Thanks for your help.

Drew, welcome to the forum. They made lugers for almost 50 years, plus many manufacturers, so we need more info and mroe pictures.

whats on the toggle?

any date on it?

what is the serial number, PLUS the suffix if it has one?

welcome to the forum, i used to live in Palouse till we moved to the Denver area.

also, include photos of the holster (is there a tool inside the little pouch inside of the holster?)

Wow, guys thanks for the quick response! I don't know many of the terms to all the parts of the gun, but I do know the serial numbers on the gun match all match as well as with the clip. The serial number is 36503 (Germany) I took some more pictures so you can see the gun better. It was hard getting good pics. The part on the handle of the gun is part of the safety mechanism. Thanks again!

Drew is it nickle plated? (if so, none ever left the factory like that, and to many collectors the value would be about half as compared to a collector piece)

It appears to be a 1906 model American Eagle.

Is it 9mm or 7.65mm (30 luger)?
If you don't know, see if you have a pencil, if it drops down the bore its a 9mm, if it is slightly tight a 30 luger (at least thats what i've read ;))

Include a full left, full right, of the pistol and a picture of the back of the holster and try not to make the size as small, I'm over 40 and eyes are worser than they used to be :)

Drew,
You stated that it is all matching as well as the clip. Is the wood bottom of the clip/magazine also numbered to the gun? They were almost never numbered on commercials. Notice I said (almost) never.

Drew,

By serial number, your 1906 model Luger was probably made in the time frame of late 1907 to early 1908. The barrel lenth and style suggests that it is in .30 cal.

In addition to confirming the caliber, could you please report if the gun has crown-over-letter proofs on the left side of the receiver and underneath the barrel?

Hey guys, I appreciate all of your interest in helping me date this gun. I'm doing my best to answer the previous questions. My dad tells me its a 30 cal luger. The wood bottom clip number is 6503 with a couple markings on it. One marking looks like a + sign, and I don't understand the other. I am adding additional pics to show you all. Thanks again, and Dwight I don't see the crown proofs that you mentioned.

Sounds like a military mag. that someone mated to the gun. I understand why though... 36503--6503.
