What ammo do you folks recommend for the luger, per a post I sent in under the New Collectors section, my Stoeger luger (new, well kinda) does not auto, even with 1260fps (115 gr) ammo. What do you use? Yes, I will accept flames for not having a real luger

Dennis, welcome to the forum. We don't do flames here, so don't accept them...

I have moved this to the New Collectors area, instead of the Navy area.


I do not have a newer luger, but would guess plain ole Walmart 9mm luger ammo would do just fine...

Ed: thanx for the reply, I had posted it on the Navy section because it is infact a Navy Luger, and I had posted a much more involved version of the question in this section (figuring in this section I would get more answers other than those related to the ammo). What I have found to date is that the WalMart Winchester loads don't even come close to working. I either get no exchange whatsoever or at best, I get the empty sitting up vertical, pinched in between the carriage and the front of the receiver. The search for the perfect solution goes on.....thanx

many times it is not the ammo (unless it is too short), and the myth that the ammo should be more powerful is "usually" a myth...


Did not know they made a 6 inch they called a navy. Do they have the rear navy sight?

I am not one of the "experts" on this Forum. However, I do know that a great many semiautomatic rifles will not function properly if their bolts and internal receiver areas are too "dry" or lacking in proper lubrication.

I wonder if you have done the basic filed stripping, and put a very light film of lubricant on the inside surfaces of the receiver? Why not try lubricating these surfaces and see if the reduction in friction changes the way your pistol cycles?

If you do try this (or have already tried it) I am sure we would all be interested in hearing what happend.

Field stripped it to the point of removing the breech and have lubricated the sliding surfaces from the receiver, the barrel assembly and the bolt. I have used Rem Oil, I have used TRiflow, I even used some vaseline (worked great for my shotgun). All to no avail. The change in ammo from the Walmart Winchs, to the Sellier and Bellot seemed to come close to working, but still am a little short of perfect.

I guess it gets the moniker Navy just because it has the 6" Navy barrel. Obviously, the Stoeger was never issued to the navy. I had to have the 6" barrelled Luger because I just thought the 6" barrel looked so much cooler than the 100mm (4" barrel). Altho I did not succumb to the bigger is better, I couldn't convince myself that I had to have the artillery length barrel.

oops Ed, forgot to answer the last part of your question. I don't know how to define a navy sight, but my rear sight is an non-adjustable v-notch sight.
