new to forum

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and first would like to say thanks to all the people who must have worked hard to get this site up. I am not a collector but was lucky enough to inherit a nice pistol when my dad died about 25 years ago. It actually belonged to my older brother, who pre-deceased Dad, and was probably purchased at a gun show in the late 60's.

I still remember the day of the funeral, my uncle was helping my mom go through some of my dad's things and he mentioned the Luger and I could tell he was hoping I wasn't interested because I know he was. Well I considered it a family heirloom and replied no, I wouild very much like to keep it in our family.

I researched the gun a bit, learned how to take it apart and care for it but not realizing it had a pretty good collector value I shot maybe a couple hundred rounds through it over the years. Since then I've learned that a pistol, holster (with tool) and matching magazine (just one) is a pretty good combination and have decided not to shoot it anymore.

I since shared my knowledge with my son (21yo) and I will make sure it will be left to him when I die. I once had a violin that I bought for really really cheap that turned out to be worth over $20K also about 20 years after I had bought it. In this case I somehow convinced myself I needed to sell it, it was too valuable, should be insured etc. and besides I don't play violin. It was sold, the money spent, and now to be honest I wish I had hung on to it.

I will try to get my son to take some pictures and at least add the data to the database.

PS I posting from work and don't have the info in front of me but it is a military P08, byf/42 is something I think I remember.
