1906 or older luger want to Identify
My wifes grandfather passed away and left her grandmother with a large collection of guns. She now wants too sell them all which makes me a little sick to my stomach but any way I have in my hand a german luger that looks to be in all original form. Serial number is***13976*** and Here are a couple of pics. If someone could determine the Identity and worth of this gun for me That would be great. Thanks miles

This is a 1900 model and fairly early. Normally I would say it was worth around $2,000, although less to me in this shape. It appears to have active rust on it?
What other kind of guns are there? Welcome to the forum! Ed |
I dont see any active rust on it. Maybe some dirt

ah excellent, I was afraid that was rust.

Miles,
Welcome to the Forum. As Ed noted, this is an Old Model 1900 Parabellum. I think his price estimation for one of these is a bit low, but I agree that it appears this gun is subject to some surface corrosion. For the sake of this discussion, and the condition of the gun, please take some gun oil and thoroughly clean the metal suface and the interior. If the gun is simply "dirty" it will benefit from the clean-up, and present itself better to bring a higher price. This will also reveal whether or not there is actually surface rust, and may reveal the potential for a bigger problem. The conditions which your pictures suggest are symptomatic of a storage problem, rust developing from storage in a moist or humid environment. You note that this gun is out of a large collection, I recomend that you find an opportunity to examine all the guns in the collection and if they indeed have a storage rust problem, take immediate protective action. Also, please let us know if there is a stamping over the chamber and GERMANY stamped into the front of the frame under the serial number, it will allow us to tell you some additional information about your Luger. --Dwight |
Yes there is a serial number stamped and is posted at the top. Germany is stamped as well. Also atop the gun dwm and there is a bird with a shield. But yes serial number and germany on the front of the gun. Serial number on the barrel as well. Looks as if the clip bottom is made of wood.

how do i look up the serial number
|
You can't really look up the serial number, but you can see how it falls by looking up Dwights database; http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthre...781#post129781
The marking on top is most likely what is called an American Eagle (or AE for short). This is a luger I would love to own :) I have one about 7,000 serial numbers earlier; http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload..._l_z_copy1.jpg Ed |
