Just received this post WWII DDR holster for P08.

Hi Mauro,

It stands for 'Volkseigener Betrieb nr. 6' (or 'People's own company nr. 6).
It would be interesting to find out which company VEB6 was before it was taken over by the state.

I got the other holster from the same seller. The P38 pattern stamped 'MfS' which stands for Ministerium fur Staatssicherheit, better known as the StaSi.

I Gerben,
Thank you for your accurate answer, as usual!

I guess the previous owner was not so happy of the new company name
:-)

Cheers,
Mauro

Nice! I've been looking for an east german holster for a while......how hard are they to find?

Vlim 12-05-2007 11:44 AM

Hi,

The P08 version is very difficult to find. The P38 pattern is more common, was also used for the P08 and pops up regularly in Germany, as they had quite large supplies of unissued ones still in stock when the wall came down in 1989.

Actually, I'm looking for both. What is a fair price for either in pretty nice condition?

Gerben,

Sorry to be way off topic, but I am headed for Amsterdam tomorrow, returning Sunday. I've been there before and covered all the painters' museums (van Gogh, Rembrandt, Rijksmuseum, etc.). This time I'll head for the (antique) markets and the Resistance museum. Is there any other gun/WW2 - related place/institution that I just have to visit?

Thanks!

Balder

Hi Balder,

You should visit the military museum in Delft. Their collection is excellent.
If you get the chance make a stopover at the military museum in Overloon.

Mauro,

Are there any other markings inside the holster? There might be a MdI or date stamp as well.

mauro 12-12-2007 11:50 AM

Hi Schupo,
I have double checked the holster and the only stamo I can see is VEB 6.
Thank you for the question.
Have fun.
Mauro
