Unusual Luger Magazine?
I have just acquired a Luger magazine with markings I am unfamiliar with. There are no markings on the body of the mag. The only markings are on the aluminum bottom, and these are: Serial number 8206, beneath the serial is a normal "+" sign, and above the serial is "S/42" with letters which seem to be of the same style as found on Mauser toggles. Can anyone elaborate on this mag?

sounds like a job for G.T. or Tom Heller! (EOM)

Re: Unusual Luger Magazine?
S/42 and 42 were used on Mauser replacement parts. The replacement magazines are found both numbered and unnumbered. Yours apparently went through a facility that had the proper tools to number the magazine to a pistol.

Re: Unusual Luger Magazine?
I understand that it is a replacement magazine, but would it have been numbered by a military repair facility to match the gun, or would the weapon have been returned to Mauser for servicing and the magazine numbered by the factory?

Re: Unusual Luger Magazine?
Aaron, I agree that your S/42 marked PO8 mag probably left the Mauser factory as an unnumbered spare. If the style and size of the digits on the mag bottom do not EXACTLY match the numbers on your pistol, it's a safe bet that it wasn't numbered at the factory. Tom
