more info 1921 Luger
Just took possession of the 1921 luger and wanted to pass on latest info.'
1921 on top of barrel DWM on TOP SN88953 with all parts numbered 53 including 2 magazines. On right side of barrell it looks like 2 birds the same and 1 different On Butt is 8-20 with the 8 larger On safety (which is straw) is the name GESICHERT On grip strap is 6/A.R.7.70 This Luger is at least 90% There is a holster with all stitching in good shape, strap very good, color dark brown and no problems but normal age. On the holster is Cheinichen Dresden 1939 and a number the first of which I cannot make out ?A706 Also another gun came with this package. Webley & Scott LTD. London and Birmingham 635MM Automatic Pistol SN145257 With holster This weapon is in good condition with the exception of small about of surface rust Any information on either of these weapons would be greatly appreciated |
Having 2 matching magazines is uncommon, that is for sure. Made me think it had gone into police service. A police would have a sear safety like the pictured arrow below.
http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload...olor_copy5.jpg However, the gripstrap marking sounds very army, and specifically weimar era. (as do the doves on the right and the final proof eagle; do they look like these? http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/1031b_10_dove.jpg Ed |
Hi Tomi,
The Luger is one of the mysterious 5 digit SN variations that pops up now and then. I believe they have been speculated as reworks and not new production 1921 Lugers. Does the first 8 appear to have been added later? The grip marking is a Reichswehr Army unit 6th Battery/ Artillery Regt. 7 weapon #70 Ron |
Thanks guys for your replys. The Doves are like the ones shown but the safety is not. The serial number appears to be all the same spacing and size as it would be if struck at the same time. I know nothing about Lugers, but thought this one was in very nice condition and offered to help my son find the value because he is interested in selling both weapons. I will be posting pictures as soon as I figure out how. We do suspect that it came from a member of Von Brauns' team at Redstone Arsenal, AL but as yet cannot prove it. We live in Huntsville, AL and this was bought at an estate sale of a German widow. I really appreciate your help here.

Tomi,
I collect Reichswehr unit marked Lugers. I would be interested in it, if and when you decide to sell. Ron |
Tomi, as Ron said, that just eliminates it being a police and was originally a commerical that was purchased for the army itself. If y'all do sell, folks like Ron, and myself, would be interested.

Thanks guys for info. Yes we would like to sell this weapon but don't really know its value yet since this is the only website I have researched and have not had it appraised. We are not collectors and I know it would take a great deal of time to research so, make me an offer, since I know you are more knowledgeable than me and if it is enough I may forego any more research.

Tommie,
Sent you an e-mail yesterday. Ron |
