Date code location or existence.

Hi,
I have a 7.65 MM Interarms P08 Parrabellum with a 6" barrel. It looks like it hasn't been fired, nor am I likely to. I found out what the common alphebet date code series means but can't find any such code on this piece. Is there any way other than serial number to tell the date of manufacture or proofing? The serial# is 10.0051xx
Thanks,
Glen

Hello, Glen and welcome to the LugerForums...

The site you need with all relevant info is Mauros site. You can find it at this link...

Thanks so much!

I surfed the site for quite a while but couldn't find anything that pinpointed the date. Walter's "The Luger Story" says mine was produced within the 1970-73 period, but doesn't narrow it down any more than that. (Page 248, bottom, "U.S. commercial pattern") I expect to see more info in print as I drift farther into old age concerning the later Mauser models.

The Mauser Parabellum destine for the US market were not sent thru the German proof house, so therefore not date coded. These will be "in house" Mauser proof fired with an "FBM" marking on the left frame. TH

If you haven't checked the "All Post-WWII Lugers" area yet, you might check the top stickied thread, which touches on serial numbers for Interarms Mausers. First post mentions serial 10.005647 was from 1986, so 10.0051xx might be from early 1980s?

I did see that, though I'm wondering why Walter says they were made from 1970 to 1973.

Mauro emailed me, here is what he said,
"Hello,
Sorry for the delay on the answer but I was really busy.
According with my database, your pistol has been made between 1974 and 1977. In this period less than 500 pistols have been made because the main production was concentrated in the 1971-72 period."

There aren't many folks who would go out of their way like that, the Luger Forum has an asset in Mauro, I for one appreciate him.
Glen
