rusted out navy

I saw this photo of a navy luger on the AuctionArms.com site

The seller states that the gun was issued to a sailor in 1915
and used for the duration of the war. However the photo
suggests a short frame but the sear area is suspiciouly
like a grip safety. The time line on the luger doesn't seem
correct to me. Any comments by the members?

I wonder what caused the deformation bend of the grip straps ?

How did the seller know that this Luger was held by the original sailor in 1915 for the duration of the war? Sounds like another "it was taken off of a dead German officer" thingy.

.... says it was salvaged from bridge remains of sunken German (PT) ? boat S57, with known captain, and documented by family who gained it back. This situation seems to provide as good a provenance as any bring-back paper gun, as long as the paper trail from the ship salvage operation to the family is bona-fide.

If the makers marks can't be verified, then nothing can be verified. But if you have $398 to blow then you can believe whatever you want to. Its a free country. Personally, I would sooner spend that money on a georgeous blond over a nice steak dinner. ;)

If whomever is going to try to push that "story" he needs to add a lot more info then this rusted out pistol being "recoverd" from the sunken PT boat and then returned to the captain's family.

Based upon it's serial number and proof markings, was it privatly owned or Imperial goverment issued? Documented by the family.....how, with it's original sales receipt?

Buy the item, not the story.
