a plum P.38
1 Attachment(s)
My neighbor across the way stopped in last night to introduce himself while I was cleaning my guns in the garage. We got talking guns and he mentioned an old german pistol he'd inherited that he was afraid to shoot and was thinking of selling to get something more modern like one of my Browning HiPowers or Sig226.
I told him I'd love to see it. He went back to his house and returned a couple minutes later with this. He's now the proud owner of a new unfired 1980 vintage HiPower "black bag" gun... |
Glenn, you never know whats going to show up! Terry and I were in your old neighborhood yesterday, there is a quilt shop in town.
Nice find, sounds like both got good deals :) Ed |
Ed, which old neighborhood? I've had so many over the years...
I ended up trading for (3) consecutive ser# Belgian/Browning Hipowers for a 1st year production Sp1. After selling the first (2) I figured I was ahead and I hate having a gun around the house I hesitate to shoot, so I was pretty happy with the trade. I've seen some plum colored slides on these ac44s, but never one so vibrant as this. Now I just need to find one of those plum colored Kriegs.... |
I am back 'home" so your old Littleton neighborhood :)
|
Glen,
It's funny that you each traded guns that you each didn't want to shoot. Will they both be shot now? Mike C. |
Wish i had neighbors like that.
Nice find:cheers: |
That looks like a really nice ac44? Couldn't read the side of the gun well. Very nice!

Yes, it's an ac44. It's in the i block. coincedentally over on the P.38 forum, a member picked one up about 2k off this one. It's frame is plum too, but not to the extent this one is. Could have been a batch of high nickel content steel or just not having the bath mixed correctly or the temp set right. The hammer on my 18 year old sig turned plum after a couple years, as did the extractor on my HK Tactical.
I shot one mag through it, and it shoots fine, but the spring for the take down plunger is weak and should be replaced if anyone was going to do some serious range time with it. I'm not, I just needed something to fill my bugs bunny holster... I just don't care to have guns around the house that are of collector value that I would be doing significant damage to the value of by shooting. I like mine about 85-90% that I can pop off a few rounds in every now and then. http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/203...00367tq.th.jpg |
I have seenseveral with plum frames. I passed on them assuming wrongly that there was something wrong with them. I was told the temp was not right when they were blued.
