any info. on this byf 41 ??
 

hey guys...I just received a P.08, and it is a byf 41 with all parts on frame and top matching except for the barrel, which is marked S. A. Pennsauren with a crown/N. Is this a police replacement barrel? Oddly, the finish on the barrel is close to the rest of the gun. It also has really nice unmarked walnut grips. And finally, where the frame is marked in the front 95xx with a small case gothic x following....above it is a capitol X.

What type of info are you looking for? As for the barrel it sounds like a commercial Luger barrel (correct me if I am wrong). If the finish is soo close to the rest of the gun I guess that could mean it has been reblued. The "X" is either a suffix letter or a russian capture marking... Is it carved in or machined? Pictures always help.

S. A. Pennsauren sounds like an importer marking; as it is not familiar to me. The Crown N would be a commericial marking and most likey is because it is an east german or russian capture gun. They were kind of a "dipped" finish, so that could explain the matching barrel with the rest of the gun.

If you can show us the crown N, we might be able to tell if it is a pre-war crown N (not likely unless an older barrel) or post war, they used the crown n marking.

well.....the finish on the gun appears to be original, as the waffenampt markings are not" filled in", and they are 655; the barrel is slightly (ever so) different then the rest of the gun. I think if it was a refinish, all the serial number markings, as well as the P.08 marking would not be that crisp. I will try and post a pic.

the more I think about it, it makes sense that it would be a Russian capture, as I collect P.38's a s well, and any P.38 with the "X" mark on the slide, would mean a Russian capture, so it would figure for the P.08 as well with this "X", would also be so.

I am not sure of the name of the importer that the "S.A." stands for, because my memory is not what it used to be... but I know that they were in Pennsauken, NJ... that may "trigger" :) (Pun intended) a memory for someone else to remember.

Could that S.A. be Service Armament Co.? I remember them being based in New Jersey and that among the many items they offered were many different types of imported surplus arms.

* Importer's mark: E.C.C.S.A., Pennsauken, NJ.
* Mine is an all matching #'d byf '41; but, w/out the Russian "X".
* 4-5 been reported on the Forum...still haven't ID'd the Importer's name from the stamped initials.

thank you all for your imput...i appreciate it.....the gun is not on the par of my other 2 all matching byf 41's, but is still worthy...1 thing i have noticed, is that the end of the barrel, where the site is mounted, is fatter, and longer then a normal luger....is it considered a "fat" barrel?? The barrel end is about 1/4" longer then other lugers...
