1900 AE investment potential

I saw a very nice Luger at a gun show Saturday. Almost all the blue is intact, though faded a bit. The guy had it for sale at $2895, said it was appraised for $3700. He said he bought it at a very good price some years ago. Being a fool, of course, I would like to start working on my wife for this. Another safe queen! Help! What's wrong with me?
Ok, Assuming I get the gun appraised and it is worth the money, will a Luger keep up with or surpass inflation? I've paid way too much many times for a pretty gun, and usually don't regret it. :) Thanks for the advice, I know the reason to buy a gun is basically personal, I'm looking for legitimate justification for the outlay.

Who would appraise something like this? It would have to be a luger person to correctly appraise it, as anyone can pull a blue book and say; it is 85%, so it must be $3700...

Lugers have surpassed inflation for many years; provided that you don't buy a reblued or restored piece...

Whats the serial number?

Is it 100%

Does it have all the correct parts?

Thanks Ed, I'll start working on the research side. I don't have the serial # yet.
