here is another pic of one of my black widow byf 41.
"Lugeritis" = a sickness for all things P.08.

With a 6kb picture.. It may just as well be something for the key chain.
Think you should try with bigger pictures Steven. If you wan't to know if they are 'legit' to have been issued with bakelite grips, you should look at the serial number.
Mauser made nice Lugers.. if you choose to refer to them with a term made to boost value instad of 'byf'.. well, that's up to you

rttwlrby 10-18-2007 12:16 PM

ok....i am well aware of the fact that Americans coined the term Black Widow for the some 20% of byf Mauser P.08's that received black bakelite grips, instead of the usual walnut, when war shortages of wood occured.
If you feel there are serial #'s attributed to so called Black Widows, please share them, as all the research I have done says there were NO serial #'s attributed to so called BW's, it was random, and no serial #'s were marked on the grips to match the gun's serial #, as it would weaken the integrity of the bakelite. Sorry the europee'ons frown on the term Black Widow.
I still enjoy Mauser Luger P.08's that are "all black".
cheers

Tac, thanks for the info. I will look into that book, I'm interested in these sorts of things. btw, I'm also from trondheim, small world uh?..

Steven, they where not random, but found on Lugers made after June 1941. From you serial, it can be determined if it they are from the first or second half of 1941. Also.. some bakelite grips where marked, but most where produced without

hysterical...thanx for the Deutche lesson.

rttwlrby 10-19-2007 03:38 PM

funny thing.....I did go in a store here, and asked for a "Shwartzen Witwe", and DID get laughed out of the store....apparently the owner doesn't speak german.

Steinar 10-19-2007 05:27 PM

..another theory..

He DOES know German, you expressed the 'we' as a 'z',
as a result, you asked for a 'Black Joke' (Shwartzen Witz). The joke that came to his mind, was so funny that he burst out laughing before he could tell it :D

rttwlrby 10-19-2007 05:31 PM

ach der lieber....you may be correct....
thanx liebschoen.

Steinar 10-19-2007 05:34 PM

I would ask him for 'Schwartzen anr¼chiger' next time, and see what happens ;)

rttwlrby 10-19-2007 05:37 PM

is that anything like an ausloch???

Steinar 10-19-2007 05:47 PM

Nah.. anr¼chiger would mean something like 'dirty joke'

..Santa Monica
what do you think happens when a norwegian that hardly has seen any sun, get the briliant idea to spend a couple of hours just lying on the beach? ..ohh, the pain..

rttwlrby 10-19-2007 05:49 PM

hahahaha......aloe vera, will soothe.

Steinar 10-20-2007 04:28 AM

15 years later they have now gained their normal colour.
..very proud of my toes, brought me so many places.

Not my intention to steal the breeze of your Lugers, talking about toes is probably a good indication that we are drifting off topic..
