Can you recomend someone for restoration?

I'm in search of a competant gunsmith who can do the rust blue and strawing on a Luger and do a nice job.

Obviously, there's Ted Green but his turn around time scares the snot out of me. He does do the best work though but I just don't want to wait that long.

I was trying to get Bill Adair to do it but he's been putting me off three months here and three months there (7-8 months so far). I emailed him again and now he says that he's not doing Lugers except for special friends (not me).

There's Eugene Golubtsov. He's a bit pricey but might be my only other alternative since he's the only other one I know of. :)

Can anyone recomend someone of caliber with whom they have personal experience?

This is the gun. It's in the white and needs very little work.

It got wet and shrunk. The water was really cold and it got what's known as "pool shrinkage".

Or that's what my girlfriend tells me. She's smart about such things...

Steve,
I sent you a PM.

Steve:

Try Gale Morgan in Lincoln , CA (916) 645-1720.

Looks like you may have a John Martz "Baby Luger".

Thanks for that, Chuck. I'll mark him down in my list and give him a call... :)

It's not a John Martz Baby, it's even better. This is one of Hugh Clarks Babies... :D

Steve,
I just had Ted Green do a luger for me. It took a little less than one month. I certainly can't speak for him, but it would be worth trying to contact him.
I think the wait however long is worth it. You won't have to worry if your going to get a good job are not.

A month, Mike? Seriously? Heck, I could wait that long at least... :)

Maybe I will give Ted a call and see where he is with his schedule. Thanks! :D

Just got this from his (Thors) homepage...

"TLSS is not currently excepting any new restoration projects.

This is due to may current poor health and project back logs.

We will be resuming taking in new projects once the back log is gone and my health improves.

Ted Green"

I emailed him. Hope he's alright... :(

Steve,
I think that post is old. I sure hope it is. I had to wait awhile before I sent it to him, but when he said he was ready for it, it took less than a month.
I'm glad I waited. It looks like DWM did it.

Mike, I hope that page is no longer accurate. I had heard he was under the weather about a year ago and thought he must be better by now. If not, that's a bad sign... :(

Hopefully he'll return my email and tell me he's allright and things are great... :)

Are you serious??? He has had mine since 2005. A month???? I'm just about to get the ATF involved with him, he has never contacted me it is always me asking what is going on with my Luger. I send an email about every 4 months and it is always the same, he is "getting to it". I just sent him an email telling him I want it back NOW, in whatever condition it is in. :grr:
