Pop Quiz,, Sorta

What is wrong with this picture???? Tom H is not allowed to answer and this is part of the set up I bought from you. Now Tom knows the answer for sure and I know he is surprised.
It is not the obvious stuff like mismatched numbers, its a bit tougher and I will show more once a few have answered. The only hint I will give for now is, I saved a part on this which now is a illusion of its former self and a fully functional piece. Thanks,,Rick B

I lightened up the photo a bit to help folks with your test...

The barrel doesn't look like it is long enough for an artillery luger...

Ron Smith 10-04-2007 08:33 PM

I'm with Steve on the barrel length. the front sight band looks like it was cut off and set back.

Pete Ebbink 10-04-2007 08:41 PM

Looks like there is a 4" barrel in the parts kit...that barrel looks like it had something drilled through it...maybe a pin...?

RBorecky 10-04-2007 09:12 PM

Correct on the barrel length.

Ed that is the plastic in the box I think that you seen from break off during manufacturing. Barrel is a normal 4" with bad wrench marks on it.

Here is a closer look at something on this arty barrel. I will show another picture shortly.

Ok here it is,
a good friend of mine took a blank and machined it to fit the end of the barrel to resemble the hump.. It is nicer looking and in all honesty saved. The bore is mint and it is a marked barrel. The sight comes up crooked as if the pivot pin is in wrong but I will get to that shortly. I enjoy saving old war horses.

This one had a inch cut off for some reason as mentioned to me possibly from the sight being boogered up. Maybe a bad muzzle, or damaged.

Rick,

The sight is supposed to "come up crooked", it biases to one side as the range is increased to account for the bullet deflection from the long, steeply-rifled barrel.

Just as an FYI and 7 inch barrel lugers. You could order 7 inch barrel artillerys from Stoeger and in fact I just saw one (and the copy of an ad for one) in a friends collection this week. In all regards they look like an artillery, yet display a 7 inch barrel.

This does not pertain in this instance, but is always a possibility when looking at post WW1 artillerys (Stoeger, Pacific arms, etc)

As Dwight states, the rear sight regulates progressively to the left as elevation is increased.

That's a pretty clever barrel band attachment. It gives it a finshed look.
