Ultra-Violet Light

There are tools and techniques that can be used to evaluate prehistoric artifacts to determine whether they are truly ancient, or modern made.

One of these techniques involves using Ultra-Violet (UV) light to determine whether the surface of an artifact is ancient or modern, or whether it has been altered in modern times. An ordinary "black light" bulb does not seem to work; however the short-wave and long-wave UV lamps can be used for this purpose. (care has to be taken with the short-wave UV light, since it can damage your eyes if you look directly at it)

Considering the prevalence of Lugers which have been modified to make them more valuable to collectors, I am wondering if anyone on this forum had ever thought about using or trying to use UV light to detect forgeries or altered surfaces on Lugers?
