Snap caps for .30 Luger?
 

I've been looking, haven't seen any. Anyone know where I can find some? Thanks,

Make your own, take a fired case, resize and decap it, trim a piece of pencil eraser to fit the primer pocket and there you are!:thumbsup:

So I take it no one makes them. Hmmm, I have several CNC lathes,,,I suppose just a spring loaded plunger where the primer would be. I've never looked at a snap cap, I wonder how stiff the spring would have to be to save wear and tear on the FP.

Lyman makes these as Snap-Caps and A-Zoom. Cowboy Action shooters use them a lot to practice ammo handling moves. I like the A-Zoom line better. Both make 9mm Luger. Midway USA is a usual vendor.

A Zoom makes 7.63 Mauser and 7.62 Tokarev, but doesn't list 7.65 Luger. If you have a lathe or know a machinist, you could turn the 9mm Luger ones down to 30 Luger specs.

deprime cases and fill primer hole with RTV....works every time for 30 or so years......

All you have to do is grind a 9mm Luger snap cap down to a length which will fit into the 7.65 chamber.

I guess the question to answer is what kind of damage comes from dry firing, what handguns are easiest to damage. I've heard of broken firing pins. Since some guns are damaged by dry firing that doesn't occur during "wet" firing (grin) it seems that duplicating the deadening effect of a primer would suffice. So, a very short movement, maybe .020 maximum, with a surface softer than the pin. The counter pin should not peen out and expand and stick deeper than flush in the hole.
Why is dry firing a 1911 considered by many to be necessary to good trigger technique, therefore by implication not very damaging to the gun? More to the point, is dry firing Lugers known to damage them?
