How do you store your luger?
 

You guys keep them in a blanker type zip up holder, or in a gun safe, or do some keep them in a original style holster. Just wondering...

I think all the comments in the three threads that Ed Tinker has provided are valid. Depending on your circumstances, you might also want to consider using a "Golden Rod" dehumidifier. These are golden tubes that come in several lengths, and contain a low wattage heating element. When plugged in, the heat tends to drive out the moisture in whatever container you may be using to store your collection. I would also be careful about using just any plastic bag to store a firearm, since the chemicals in some of them can spot the bluing over a period of time. Instead, consider using special plastic bags designed just for storing handguns, and specail chemical impregnated paper to wrap them in. All three of these products are available from Brownells, but probably other sources too. I would be real careful about laying guns on oil soaked rags or cloth, due to the possibility of spontaneous combustion.

Matthew to follow up a bit, my answer is yes to all your questions. I live where it is very dry, so even leaving them out is not a worry. When gone from the house, they are placed in "bore-store" socks and locked in a safe.

Loaded, under my pillow, etc.

For pistols in the vault I use a pegboard with rubber coated metal pegs. You can get a whole lot of them stored together in one place and get your mits on them easily... :)

That is not a bad idea. Saves on space.

Oh yeah, sorry 'bout that. I caught myself in the middle of an inventory. the number of guns in the vault didn't match the number of guns in the GunTracker computer program and I'm trying to find the discrepency.

I didn't even notice the tape when I took the picture. I guess it's about time I should finish the inventory... :p

I was wondering if it was a way to keep track during a cleaning cycle.

Yeah, me too. I'm sure I have more in the vault than listed in the computer so I won't come up short. :)

Just not go for this museum's way of displaying their Suhl and Krieghoff ;)

Steinar, the person who did that is a blithering idiot. How could one be so stupid and be able to get their hands on such beautiful and rare Lugers is just beyond my reckoning... :(

hmm.. jeah.. I wish they where paperweights at least, could not help fondeling a little with them, found out that they where still going strong.
The rustly one is the Suhl.. with truly fantastic grips and and matching mag. The Krieg I first thought was a relue, because it was darker than I'm used to. But in the 'inside' of the frame, it was shiny.. so it might be a minty excample. Owner has no idea of the value ..beleve it or not.. most people just have no interest in Lugers;)

I'm concidering making a nice wooden display for him, big enough for two lugers, the schmeizer and K98. Top it with a glass and since his little museum is located in an old bunkers, plenty of silica gel! Then give it to him along with two deactivated Lugers and money for a much stronger lock on the door into the bunker.. as a trade for his lugers.
What do you guys think? Don't wan't to fool him on this.. (the man is in his 80's btw)

Steinar, IMHO anyone (and I don't care how old he is) that stores a gun in that fashion deserves to have his ass handed to him. It's a sensible deal but I don't think he'll go for it though, given the indications for his ability to make sensible decisions.

Personally, I'd give it a try. He clearly has no special attachment to them and you might just save two historic guns. :cheers:

Like you said, he obviously has zero interest in the collectability and preservation of the lugers. The Kreig will look like the Suhl before too long. In my opinion, you would be rescuing them.
