Toggle will not lock
The toggle on my pistol will not lock in the "up and back" position. What is probably wrong?
Thanks |
1) Make sure your gun has a hold open device, some do not.
2) The hold open is activated by the magazine, make sure the button is not binding on the frame; also a very weak spring could cause the problem. 3) Often the hold open itself is worn If you could post a clear picture of your gun with the upper receiver off showing the internals of the lower receiver we can help you determine your problem, also a picture of the right side of the frame with magazine in place and grip off could be useful. One magazine can work in one Luger but not in another.. tight tolerance there as well.
Thought is had to do with the shape of the magazine, but it's the spring? |
Yes a very weak spring can cause the hold open not to activate, this is particularly true if there is any form of misalignment of the magazine that causes binding of the button. The misalignment can be caused by a bent magazine housing or button but also simple ware on the magazine latch or ware on the magazine latching notch.
It can also be caused by the notch on the magazine not being cut properly this causes the magazine when latched to tilt slightly forward binding the button on the frame. If this occurs and the spring is on the weak side the hold open will not activate, a strong spring will often overcome the binding and allow the magazine to function properly. If the notch on the magazine, or latch is worn or the notch is not cut properly the magazine will be held at a lower position or improper angle, this then causes feeding problems. Oh, and if that button is binding the gun often jams on the last one or two rounds. I am rambling againâ??sorry Vern |
Thats not rambeling Vern.. I have been wondering about it, so thanks for the explenation!

with the toggle [or bolt] in the up and back position, when you let it go slow by hand to the forward closed position should it be smooth all the way to the forward and closed position? or should there be some slight drag near the forward and closed position? thanks. new to lugers.
