Desert bronze Issue DWM?

Is there such a animal as a "Desert Bronze Issue" 1916 DWM? I have never seen a reference to one, but saw one on GunBroker and was wondering if this is a real subtype, or just marketing hype? Thanks

Looks like it was run through a jeweler's buffing/lapping wheel...

It's been buffed n'reblued, don't see any bronze anywhere!

The "Bronze" is due to rebluing at the wrong temperature or not left in the tank long enough. Kind of like over done strawing.

Those darn Germans and their Desert Bronzing. Between this and the nickle plating of submarine lugers... Makes you wonder if they ever got mixed up and sent to the wrong units.

Imagine the frustration of getting a chrome plated luger if you were stationed in the Sahara. Everybody would point and laugh...

It looks like the even rarer Off White variation to me.

The whiting in the proof marks was the give away. It's much lighter than the finish.

I thought that all of the nickle plated Lugers only went to high ranking officers of the SS. It is "news" to me that some were actually issued to members of the U-Boat service. You learn something new everyday.
