i have listed a very nice artillery luger holster ,stock ,striping tool and very rare early cleaning rod with the brass end on ebay please take a look

the "attaching strap" on the stock is strange...

Christian, Which strap? Toe strap? Boot strap? Stock closure strap? They all look good to me from what I can see.

Nick, I take it the stock boot is missing? You show no photo's of the loading tool or the cleaning rod on Ebay....Nor do you make mention of them in your auction? Listed seperately?

the stock/holster strap is different to the norm being straight but it matches the rest of the leather work and looks factory made could it be an early variation?

Nick, It is certainly old..I have never seen such a variation on a Military stock/Holster rig. The brass washers and screws look right...

Nick, I can say the washers look to be original but I have strong reservations about the stock strap itself. Even the very early ones I have observed have a totally different shape. The shape has never changed to the best of my knowledge. The normal original shape was for a reason, to accomodate the passage of the carry strap thru the stock it is thinner and expands to allow the closure strap to be threaded thru a keeper before it is affixed to the stud.
The only difference I have observed is not in the shape but in how the keeper strap is affixed. On very early straps, stock, toe and boot, they stitched them. Later they used hand hammered rivets with a small washer.
Unless someone more knowledgable than myself claims otherwise I would not hang my hat on this being anything but an old and adequate attachment but dertainly not original to this fine military holster and stock example.

if the strap is not factory it has been made by a good leather worker and is not a field modification could it be commercial?

Nick, Depending on your deffinition of commercial..it almost has to be! It is not Military and this rig IS military.

One thing I have been meaning to ask..The stud on this..Are there any casting lines along both sides? Look carefully at this stud closeup. Some were cast and some were machined. You should be able to tell by looking close.

this rig came with a 1915 dated dwm that had sadly been deactivated
the owner kept the gun to remind him of the freedoms we once had

Nick, The machined stud indicates earlier manufacture although that is not much of an indicator. I am assuming the underside of the stud is leather covered?
Yes, Too bad about England and their foolishness about deactivation. I want to believe this will never happen here...God Bless our founding Fathers and their foresight with the Constitution. I ended up winning the artillery rig on eBay. It was
sort of by default. With a minute to go I placed a
final bid of 2,010.00. I added to many zeros and the
bid registered as $20,010.00! I could not change it
and realized I was at the total mercy of the other
bidder for the final price. I was embarrassed and had
a sick feeling watching the clock tick down. I bet the
other guy was frantic trying to outbid me. To save
face with Nick I went ahead and sent him a pay pal
payment. I did not sleep good last night.
