1939 Hoslster, light brown or tan

Last week in a small West Texas town I say a 1939 Luger holster make In Bad Kreuznach, Germany. It was in excellent shape. The color was very light brown, almost tan. It had the waffenamt stamp. Is this not an unusual color for 1939? Why was it not black or at least dark brown?

Ciao!

If this can be of any help, I can quote recollection of a relative of mine here in Northern Italy, during WWII.
He says he clearly remembers seeing , as a boy of fourteen, in 1943-45 German Panzer troops wearing Pistol holsters in both Brown and Black leather he also remembers the black apnzer jacket with camo trousers combination..!
He already had a keen eye for details and still has an extremely good memory!
At the time he thought that officers wore brown holsters and other ranks wore black, but he says that probably this was not the case.

Incidentally, a colour plate in a book in the Osprey rseries (GERMAN PANZER CREWMAN WWII) shows a Brown holster for the P08.

Hope this helps.

Ciao!

Marco

Brown is an accepted color, and I have seen some lighter brown, but tan is possible, but not likely (with all the years that have passed, shouldn't the tan have turned browner...)

See one like this? notice that it is with maker and year... others are waffenampt'd
