Conventional "wisdom"
 

I didn't expect much in the way of accuracy from my newly acquired byf 42 after having read reports by gun writers through the years about Lugers not being very accurate. I took mine out for the first time this afternoon. Either I got uncharacteristically lucky or the experts spend too much time on their posteriors. Since I've never been particularly lucky, I suspect it might be the latter. I couldn't have been happier with the tiny groups I got with generic white box 115gr. Winchester. Point of impact was perfect. One more outing at 50 yards and I'll put it back into retirement. :roflmao:

Anyone that would say that a Luger is not accurate has never shot one.

I can't think of a more out of the box accurate pistol than a Luger.

I must of read the same reports. I too did not expect much and was quite taken with the results. The other thing that always bugged me was all the talk about how much better a P38 was compared to a P08. They are easier(cheaper) to make. And the P38's I've shot, shot well. But I have seen lots of P38's with missing extractors (it was there a minute ago) and that top plate that holds the firing pin and chamber indicator has a habit of taking off as well.

I'm not wanting to start a bar room fight, but the P-38s I have owned were not accurate at all.

The Bundeswehr had a joke about their P-1s (P-38s)..."eight warning shots and an aimed throw". This says it all for me.

Both of my current P-1 pistols have proven to be capable of 5 shot groups at 25 yards that run just under 2.5 inches. Not nearly as good as my lugers, or my Browning GP Comp (still the most accurate 9mmP I've had the pleasure of firing), but still more than acceptable for a service pistol. Both of my P-1's are the later variation with the heavier slides and the steel hexagonal camming pin. One post-war commercial Walther P-38 that I played around with a bit would consistantly shoot 3" groups too.....
