Back from China

China was full of surprises...

Within a 3 hour drive of where I was (about 2 hours Southwest of Shanghai) live the same number of people as the entire population of the US!

Buildings look modern and well constructed, skyscrapers are everywhere, cars are new, pricey and abundant, people are well-dressed and fed, freeways are ubiquitous and well-maintained, and the service on Chinese airlines makes US carriers look like detention camps.

Don't look now guys, but the world's driving economic force has moved East... far East.
In 5-10 years they are going to go flying past us so fast we'll need slo-mo cameras just to see them.

When I asked the American expat businessman I was there to see why he set up shop in China, he said "because there are too many roadblocks in the US"!

They're training chemists, engineers and business people while we train burger flippers! When will government get its hands out of the damn pie?!

When I asked about communism the reply was; "What communism? There are too many people to keep an eye on. This country is now communist in name only."

A China toy make, Mr. Zhang Shuhong just kill himself the other day for making near 1 million toys with a lead paint content to high to be exported to the US, China is still the largest producer of crap!...the only good communist is a dead one....

policeluger,
No doubt about it. Their quality is low. But remember when "made in Japan" was an insult? Now look at 'em.
The same thing is happening in China, and the same way... our guys are teaching them how.
I'm not extolling the virtues of China, I'm criticizing us (as in US) for being asleep at the switch.

Ask their former head of the Chinese FDA equivalent who went down in front of a firing squad about communism in China. They are still communists and they are expansionists with the short term goal of taking Taiwan.

Did you bring any toothpaste back with you?

Haven't we heard this before; over the years, when I was a kid, everything came from Japan, then Taiwan, then Korea, now China (or maybe, China again)... Cheap labor until it gets too expensive, but the folks are making more to pay for their cars, etc...

keoki, PO says I have a box for me, will anxiously go grab in the morning :)

..and what makes you have the right to judge over the people in a nation on the other side of the world, with an ancient history and culture different to yours?
Iâ??m not a communist myself, nor do I agree on their political view. But I must say, that by your quote above not only piss on my Chinese friends, but the massgraves of 80 000+40,000 innocent Japanese people you-know-where and 3 million sivilian people in Vietnam ..to mention some. Your quote is not only despicable, disrespectful and totally out of â??out-of-dateâ??, it represents the very reason why we have and will always continue to have wars. It's a mentality so destructive that it should have faded away just by a glance back in history.
The written word is often hars, I know, but I just canâ??t stand quotes like that. In my time here on the forum, I have looked at you as a good guy, will not make a different judgement based upon your one sentence.

I have been in China, Japan, Indonesia, India, Russia, every European country, driven coast to coast in the US and fought side by side with US troops in search for Bin Laden in Afganistan.
It makes me wonder Howard, have you ever been in China? Sure there are no quality product from China?

Please donâ??t talk about the people with a different political view than youself as better of dead. Let that be up to the hands of God.
Don't even joke about it, as has been and is a reality that people get killed over such.

This thread is perhaps going for a forced closure, but I felt I had to share my view on this.. I have seen enough s**t caused by ignorance to let it go without.

To bring it back more on topic, wich is about the good sides of things.
China has today phased out most of the centrally planned economy that has been typical for communism. They are in an economic growth and trying to equal out the economic welfare between the citys and villages the best they can. Itâ??s a big train to speed up, with one fifth of the worldâ??s population, so there are still problems. But compared to 10 years ago, when I first visited China, the changes are significant.

Howard, I seem to remember you getting very upset that someone said that all muslems / Iranians should be dead and you got angry.

Overall blank statements is not fair to anyone, country or race.

Thread closed (oh, good, now I get to hear how I don't allow free speech in THIS country)

No - actually - this thread is *deleted*...

This has got to be one of the most bigoted threads it has ever been my displeasure to read on the LugerForum...
