Yah, I agree that this is a very unusual configuration.I have never seen or heard of it until I saw your pictures. Very interesting. I am curious enough to want to know more about it.But I also agree with you that it would probably be very inconvenient to carry. Maybe it would, because of it unusualness, be a candidate for Luger of the Month if someone on the forum actually possessed one. Thanks for the pictures.

Hi,

While at the Kansas City Gun show a couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to look at and handle one of these from a collector who was walking by and just wanted to share this unique item. As I remember, they are light and are not clumsy at all. They fold right out and make a great little stock. As I recall there were something like less than 200 made and the one we were looking at was like serial number 77. This one was in excellent condition and worked great. Folded and unfolded in just a split second. Was light, and looked fairly sturdy and stout. I think they sell in the 5 digit range, and are seldom ever seen unless you get to view one of the really advanced collections.

Hopefully one of the "advanced" collectors would be willing to share a

Nope, as noted in the posting that prompted this thread, the Benke-Thiemann has been specifically exempted from NFA classification as a short-barrelled rifle, and thus the originals are legal.

.... never heard of one 'til I came across it on the ATF exemption list -- I was beginning to wonder if they even existed. I shoulda known someone here would at least have a pic.

Somehow,I knew that I had seen one of these contraptions before. So I did some digging. Simpson had one on the cover of his September 1995 handout. It was a commercial 1920 Benke Thiemann Rig 30 cal, 97% blue and 70% straw. Original Benke holster and he said that it is pictured in Multi-National Pistol page 160-161. The price was a mere $14,000. That was when $14,000 ment something.

Today Thor let me borrow a book call Luger: The Multi-National Pistol by Charles Kenyon, Jr. On page 160 of this book there are three nice photos of the Benk-Thiemann shoulder stock and a short paragraph about it. Thought I would pass this along to all of you just in case you were interested.
