Navy Stock Odin Question

No. There are no markings at all. They are excellent reproductions except for the disk, which is not finished as smoothly as an original. Guess they had to make some distinguishing feature to keep them from being passed off as original. Over the years as they attain some handling and patina, someone will switch out the disk for an original and a "new" navy stock will be born.

It's always a pleasure.

My Navy Odin stock is made from an unidentifyable wood. It doesn't look like walnut, birch or even oak. It has a rather liberally and sloppily applied non-oil finish, and I agree with you about the disk.

Frankly, in the early 80's, when I was told by the proprietor of the Slaters Collectors Armory in Alexandria Virginia, that it was made my "Mauser", I couldn't believe it. My comment..."Mauser never made this thing".

I may have been wrong about Mauser taking credit for it, but I doubt that it was made by German craftsmen in Oberndorf.

One would have to work hard indeed to pass off an Odin for an original DWM; having said that, passing off an Odin for one of the werft-manufactured stocks of the late Imperial/Weimar era, while challenging, would certainly be within the realm of possibility.
