Hi all, I'm new to this forum. My brother Don collects WW2 Stuff and told me about this Mauser Banner Luger for sale at a gun shop in Pennsylvania. I took some photos of it, any info on it would be greatly appreciated. the owner want 3K. It looks like it has about 98% finnish and the Bore is excellent. thanks.

David, welcome to the forum. I do not know this type of luger well, but off of the top of my head;

1. It is a 1941 Mauser
2. it has a sear safety, which makes it a police banner
3. It has a eagle L, a police acceptance marking
4. matching magazine...

David, Your #6661X block 1941 E/L Police luger appears to be all correct (in a range from 5801x to 7199x of 1941 E/Ls) and in exc condition with a matching mag and (presumably) Police marked holster, is a bargain @$3000. TH

Edward, Thanks for your input. I still have alot of learning to do in collecting WW2 firearms.

Thank you LugerDoc for your info. I put a deposit down on it the other day. I couldn't live with myself if it got away LOL. I am trying to track down some relatives for some more info/photos of the person who brought it back. Is this holster normally used by the police? I didn't really see any markings on it. Thanks anyway for your help.

David,

The police holsters usually have a different style of closure strap design. I think the holster is of the military style but if it has no markings, it would be a commercial holster for civilan use.

Here is a worn police style holster on eBay. You can see the difference in the closure strap design on this example.

BTW...sometimes if you post the State location and name of gun shop (as shown in the photos) openly in a posting, you might find some fellows that "lurk" on the forums may run down and beat you to the purchase...sly old dogs that some may be...;)

Present company excluded of course...well in this case you were "safe" as the gun you posted was not a Swiss Luger...so I was not tempted to call the shop with my CC info. :D

Questions :

1. Anyone know what the little "p" means at the bottom of the magazine well ???

2. I do not follow Mauser stuff much...is a blued muzzle end correct on this model ???

Steinar 07-11-2007 12:10 PM

Not answers to the question, but observations regarding them;

My serial #6 - 41 Mauser police, does not have a blued muzzle. Also it does not have the "p" on the magazine well.

(for what it's worth, mine have e/655 and e/135 in addition to the e+L on the right side of the receiver. And "41" on the chamber instead of "1941")

Nor do it have the upside-down eagle (?) on the front sight.. anyone seen something like that before?

Pete Ebbink 07-11-2007 12:56 PM

Steinar,

I have a Swiss Masuer Banner pistol SN 3721v assembled after April 1940 or so that does have the upside-down Eagle/N proof on the front of the front sight block.

THankyou all for your observations. I wasn't expecting this many responses this soon.

David, I'm no collector, I mostly lurk. This one looked "too good" to me, but the experts like it. Seems like you done good! Congrats.
