Police rework marking
I recently bought a police rework Luger and it has a sear safety, many markings and serial number overstrikes.
I found this particular stamping unusal and don't know what it means. Any ideas? http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/img_1764a.jpg |
Ken,
It's an HZa depot rework stamp. Indicating that the pistol was repaired or refurbished at HZa Depot #13. If you are a member on Still's forum. Here's a link to a discussion on these marks. http://luger.gunboards.com/topic.asp...earchTerms=HZa Ron |
To add to Ron's answer, it is was Depot #13 in Ingolstadt (Jngolstadt, in German).

So there are 3 parts to this stamping if I understand it correctly.
HZa refers to a company Jt is a abbreviation for Jngolstadt 13 is the depot number The number 13 is difficult to distinguish, but knowing that is what it is, I suppose I can see it. The last 2 numbers of the serial numbers are stamped and overstamped on the correct parts, but one on the toggle wasn't done very well. Also the last 2 numbers were applied to the toggle pin, an indication of Nazi era rework. |
HZa = Heers Zeugamt = Army weapons depot
And it's 18, rather than 13. This depot seems to have done a lot of P-08 work. --Dwight |
It's possible that some of the overstamped serials (particularly if tbe new numbers are engraved) may be signs of a later DDR rework. TH
