Hi, I've attached photos of a Luger I'm concidering having Reblued. Do you think It would hurt it's value ? As you can see it's missing a few parts. But it's such a rare model, what do you think it's worth ? I hope my picture come through. Thanks, Jimbo

How does it shoot? Is the rifling still good?

the gunman 06-20-2007 08:53 PM

There are dealers on gunbroker that would grade that as 80%

I think I see a unit marking (or 10 unit marks...)

:p

Could you show a photo with the toggle pulled back? Thanks, Jerry Burney

Did anything else survive the fire?

At least you can say it's all matching!

Steinar 06-21-2007 09:09 AM

If you leave it as it is, it would lower the value of the fence;)

jsmith 06-21-2007 10:07 AM

I think it's a Russian Model, as it was dug up in Russia !!
Believe it or not, somebody actually tried to beat the toggle back (I wish he'd left it alone). I know these Russian Diggers sometime dig up pistols and get them to shoot, usually tokarev's though.
On the broomhandle forum, I met a guy who cut up a Early Cone hammer C96 for parts. I would have left it a Wall-hanger.
I know another guy with a heavily pitted Bergman - Bayard, he got it to cycle (Not shoot) even though he didn't take it apart.
Thanks for all the great advice ! Jimbo

Who would have guessed there was a Luger on board the Titanic?

davidkachel 06-21-2007 05:26 PM

Refinish the fence. Better investment.
However, this does give me a wonderful idea for the world's greatest door knocker!

gunman, only 80%?

Jimbo,

It really "irks" me to see all the nay-sayers come to the attack. They suffer from a dreadful malady called Halitosis of the Mind, more commonly known as "stinkin' thinkin'."

By refinishing the pitiful carcass you've submitted, I think you have the potential to be known forever after as a miracle maker!

I hope the photo below stimulates your ambition and enthusiasm to do great things!

Best wishes,

Dave in TN. :bigbye:

Excellent Photo work DaveinTN! This is a great thread... lots of imagination used here :D

Jimbo, how did the luger go from a non grip safety type to a grip
safety one? The is considerable machining involved in this trans-
formation.

jsmith 06-22-2007 04:28 PM

I have to give credit to my Gunsmith, Dave in Tenn. I always wanted a grip Safety model. So, he made it happen for me! I still need a correct Magazine for it, If anyone can help, condition is unimportant, Dave can fix anything. If I didn't know better, I'd swear it wasn't the same gun ! Fast turn around too.

Jimbo,

Many thanks for the kind compliment. As you may have unfortunately found, the modifications I made to your pistol are only superficial. Also, I only refinished one side.

Like the TV show "Pimp My Ride," modifications are only skin deep. The crummy engine is still under the hood. In other words, DON'T TRY TO SHOOT YOUR GUN!

To illustrate, I took a jigsaw to the left grip. The result is quite obvious...

OMG ! I better go out to my fence and see for myself. I guess thats why no gaurentee was offered ! ? Oh well, you get what you pay for, Huh ? Jimbo

Someone is WAY too skillful with Photoshop and has WAY too much time on their hands!:) (Wish I could do that)
