Nice Oiler

Hello,

Need some help. I know this is not necessarily an orignal luger accessory but does anyone know it's approximate value. It has no markings on it and it appears to be made out of brass with a nickel plating. It is in very nice condition. I know it dates from the early 1900's because I acquired it from a WWI veteran in 1960.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Chester,

I go after these on eBay and elsewhere...yours in such nice condition could easly fetch $ 60-80 on eBay if bidding is active.

I think the little "banjo" style is really for fishing rod/reel oiler and probably not originally a gun accessories.

Yours with the "floral" motif might be an oiler for an early sewing machine...just a WAG. Note sure if a fisherman or a gun enthustiast would respond to marketing of a product with the floral pattern...

Here is a little collection of goodies I have gathered over the past year...

My nicest one is in the 11 o'clock position and I had a fellow collector offer me $ 100 for it...but I really like that one so did not let it go.

This nice one is runnig on eBay right now...it has "Germany" stamped on it...in case a Member is looking for one for a German gun display...

it even has the closing tip...

If no one jumps in on this one, I think I will...

Hello Pete,

Thank you for your comments and information. You have a very nice collection of oilers. I will be putting this one on Ebay this week. I hope I can get what you estimated but you never know.

Best Regards,

Holly Smokes, Chester...yours went for $ 255...WOW...you lucky dog !!!

I obviously under-estimated the importance/value of your tin...

Reckon some one saw it for what is really was...Betsy Ross' original oiler for the very early sewing machine she used to make that important American flag...I jest of course...

I will be very pleased when it is time to sell some of mine off...:)

Maybe I should insure my lot for $ 2K...:D

Helped a friend this week 'capture' this oiler on eBay.

He was very lucky that bidding was quite and he was able to "steal' it for under $ 18.00.

The Russian Cyrillic letters on the dual-compartment oil and bore solvent container stand for neft ("oil") and shchalok (alkaline solution").
