Basic barrel question

Hello - Someone has a Luger barrel for sale on the forum, and after viewing the pictures, it made me wonder how the Luger barrel is seated or locked into the receiver. Is it basically just screwed on and torqued to a spec, or is there some type of locking pin or device like the old Smith & Wesson pinned barrels? Come to think of it, I guess this question applies to any gun. Thx

your right the first time, it is a crush fit to the receiver.....

I'm wondering about this too and glad you mentioned "crush fit", policeluger. I have a receiver and a barrel and can screw the barrel in hand tight to where there is no gap between the mating surfaces of both (can't get even a strand of hair between them). From that point to get the front sight up all the way the barrel must turn another 1/8th inch (about the width of the extractor cut in the receiver).

You sure have to know what you're doing as it must take a lot of force. Not something I would do, I'd break it for sure!

Quentin,

It takes a special wrench to hold the receiver when torquing on a bbl (or removing one). Special care must be taken not to twist or warp the receiver forks and thus ruining it. :(

I have the correct set up to change/or install barrels. hellerarms@webtv.net
