Rework Broom Handle
1 Attachment(s)
I'm considering buying this Mauser C96. It's supposed to be a Nazi Police Rework. It has a waffenamt that I'm not familiar with. And the markings under the barrel I'm not familiar with either. Over all the pistol is in great condition. And all serial numbers match. I dont know much about C96's. Any information and what it's worth would be most appreciated.

10B, Photos show a RED Nine lower, missing safety lever, with a Bolo top. The position of the bolt in the barrel extention, shown in photo #3, appears to be off. I wouldn't trust one questionable proof, to athenticate it being an "original" rework. TH

The 4th picture clearly shows the safety lever in the up position. I agree after taking a second look. The bolt position does appear to be off. I spent several hours last night trying to find some information on the waffenamt. And found nothing.

I'm Sorry to differ with other members of this forum, but the top half is correct for a 1920's C96 Red nine.
You'll notice the barrel has been cut down to just under 4", machined down to accept the front site and barrel ring ( a Bolo barrel has a distictive muzzle somewhat like a P-08). The rear site has been removed and re machined to fit into a dovetail machined into the rear of the barrel extension. Is it stamped 1920 anywhere ? My 1920 has what may be a Nazi proof on the rear grip frame above the stock slot. I'll have to look up that mark to see if it is in any of my books. Mine also does not have the WW1 Army acceptance marks, maybe due to being reissued to Police units ? Any unit marks on yours ? What's the bolt's serial number ? can you push it into battery ? If so, I would try new Springs. Thanks, Jim |
Thanks for the replies so far. jsmith there is no 1920 property mark any where on the pistol which adds to the mystery. No unit marks, bolt serial number is 544 which is the same through out the pistol. Pistol cannot be pushed into battery by hand. I'm mainly a Luger collector but I have a gut feeling this C96 is good. But of course could be wrong. I offered the seller $1500 for it. Is this to much or not enough? I'm stumped on the Nazi proof for the moment after going through all my books. And internet research.

Thanks for the heads up on the Mauser forum. I registered with them and I'm still waiting on a e-mail confirmation in order to activate my meembership.

You are not alone.. I have been waiting for quite some time myself

I agree with Jsmith, It is a 1920 rework Bolo the SU4 proof makes it a Nazi police accepted gun. I hade one just like it years ago. Yours appears to be all correct! Bob Benson

fg42,
Thanks for the reply. One thing for sure that I'm finding out. Whether it be on the forums or the home front. People have strong opinions on C96 Mausers. And a lot of it is not correct. |
You have chosen not to recieve E-mails so I will do this here. If You wish to sell it anytime in the future please contact me. thanks Bob Benson

I went out this morning and fired the C96 for the first time. The pistol function fine using 10 round stripper clips to load it. The pistol was accurate but grouped high and to the left. The only problem I noticed was that the firing pin was striking the primer deep. Which has me concern about pierceing the primer.
