Re: Looger sights 8)

When I found this Luger site---I thought it would be interesting and of course have some fun with Perhaps a bit of Luger BS. But it seems to me that it is mostly kind of a show and tell time or as a school teacher friend of ours once said "bring and brag time" then I see the BS like this message that wastes our time. I have decided that this is probably only a "good old boy network" with inside jokes and waiting to to jump on anyone with a serious question or comment---or take the opportunity to try to sell something. What was the mission or purpose of this forum? Maybe I am tuned to the wrong frequency!???

Art,

As a realtive newcomer I have found this forum to be quite informative and helpful; note my earlier question about 16" barrels and the several comments or answers. I have learned a lot from just reading the forum.

Also, I have met some real craftsmen here; note my post on Hugh's grips and G.T.'s magazine bottoms . . . really excellent work.

Yeah, there is a bit of occasional BS, but you don't have to spend much time reading such if you don't like it.

The +s great outweigh the -s, IMHO.

Regards,

Luke

Re: Looger sights

Luke---nice to have you here. I note that none of the experts have yet told you that the 16" gunparts bls. have deep chambers. I have installed 6 or so since they were on the market and 4 had too deep chambers. Two of them I turned flange to make one more turn, then cut extractor cut deeper---reshape feed ramp and rechamber. The 16' bl functioned fine with std recoil spring and Win 115gr off the shelf ammo. I learned the hard way 1st bl I installed--fired fine for 2 or 3 shots---then fireing pin keeper stripped out the rear of breech block. If you have one of these bls---put a cartridge in the chamber [before attempting to install the bl] and measure the distance that the head protrudes form the bl. If that measurement is much less than .060--the chamber is too deep. Fireing will puncture the primer and gas excape will strip the fire pin. retainer out of the breech block. this can be fixed---but lot of work and expensive. Post ww2 fire pins have flutes in them---which is supposed to prevent this---Wanna take the chance? Now would you rather read this information or the Looogrr sittee kknotchh shapppe BS. Seems that installing a Luger bl is reserved for the select few----Not so.

Interesting and informative comments, Art. Thank You (EOM)

Luger enthusiasts are already known as effete, elitist, arrogant varieties of the Garden Variety Gun Nut, I thought. Now along comes Art to teach us that we can have NO FUN here at all, this is a Serious Forum, nothing else.

Gosh, Art, your knowledge is surpassed only by your humility.

I am SO impressed.
