Numrich 16-1/4" Barrel
 

Numrich offers a 61-1/4" barrel for the P.08, presumably for custom made carbines.


Has anyone here had any experince wih these? Problems?


Would appreciate any comments.

I'm sure both Tom Heller or Hugh Clark can fix you up with one
 

at probably less money than Gun Parts Corp (Numrich) and they can install it for you too!


Personally, I think the attached handguard is pretty ugly, but that is a very subjective thing. I'm sure that they would make a fine shooting stocked carbine...

I agree with you John on the stock! A nice stock like a carbine would be great but it requires a frame support only found on Carbine frames. I guess maybe one could be added like that design, but again you have to be carefull not to add a shoulder stock, ref ATF regs. Thor

We have built a few with long barrels (10,5") and with handguards.

The tang for the handguard was in our version welded on to the frame and the there was big problems if the barrel gets to heavy.

Under all circumstanses the recoilspring have to be replaced or cut down considerably.

We have also tought about making a gasbleeding hole on the underside of the barrel to work with gaspreasure on the tang in order to gasassist the opening of the action.

But so far we have never tried the gasversion.


I have looked on a few original Lugercarbines in .30 cal and the recoilsprings was extremely week on those.

It felt like they where to week to work properly but i havent testfired those guns.

Oh yea, it only applies to weapons that were issued with a stock? There were none with 16/5" Barrels? Is that the crux of it?

Wouldn't think of installing it myself.
 

My concern was related to those reservations expressed in this sting regarding the effect of the weight on functionality. I just wonder if the thing would work. Has anyone actually used one of these?

I put one in that I bought from Marstar Canada. I had to machine down the shoulder and rechamber the correct head spacing on it. I tried it on a 1920 Commercial frame without any forearm and it worked perfectly. My friend seems to think it's because of the shorter spring.

It's legal to put a shoulder stock on a handgun PROVIDING the barrel is over 16 inches in length. (Why do you think they added the extra 1/4"?) You can also have a handgun with any length barrel WITHOUT a shoulder stock.


The only combination which runs afoul of the NFA is a handgun with BOTH a shoulder stock and a barrel less than 16 inches in length, which (unless it meets ATF's regs for a curio and relic exemption) becomes a short-barrelled rifle and subject to registration and the $200 tax. The C&R exemption, of course, is for certain handguns accepted by ATF as having been originally issued with shoulder stocks -- if it's not on ATF's approved list, it's illegal.

Hakan is right. With the added weight of the 16+" barrel, considerable work has to be done to the recoil system. Also these barrels are usually short chambered and must be chamber reamed, so figure on around $150 to 200 labor in addition to the cost of the barrel.
