Byf 43 P-38
 

Well.. I still don't know if I did ok on this. Went to the gunshow today and managed a trade for this. (btw.. there was TONS of Lugers at this show.. I went with only the intention to trade off a police trade in German post war Walther PP in .32) So ended up trading the PP import Gun for this really nice BYF-43... All matching.. No imports.. great blue.. BUT!!!!!! here comes the kicker.. The Nice Bulge in the end of the Barrel.. I noticed that immediately.. and the seller made full discloser of such.. But I figured at worst I could part it out.. Would hate to do that since its such a clean matching gun.. Any advice on this guys? Is there a way a pro can fix the barrel? Look forward to hearing some opinions..

Draw file the bulge out and reblue....not really hard to do

interesting.. ya I assume that would fix it cosmetically.. wondering if there is a way to fix the bulge on the inside of the barrel as well.. Also.. I've heard conflicting stories.. is this gun unsafe to fire as it is?

One would need to exam the gun in person, however, if the bulge is minimal and there is no visible damage other then the bulge....using a draw file specifically made for this task, file it out, I have yet to see a bulge affect accuracy, not that I would suggest that you put a bulge in you match grade guns, but for this type of action I do not think there is a real problem....I have seen this and repaired dozens in my shop over the past 30+ years....while there is no way short of relining the barrel to repair the inside, I would in my shop test fire the gun before I would make the call as to being safe or not....again however you need to have a gunsmith check it out in person...just did a cowboy action shooters lever 38/357 as it bulged about 3" from muzzle....gun works great and in a CB action type shoot which is done at up to 100 yards, it still shoots straight. Hope this is of some help
