Newbie needs ID assistance

Hello,

I've found some great info here!

I'm looking for some ID info on this Luger I've inherited. The pics aren't the best, but hopefully enough to get an idea. The stamp on the extractor looks like it might've been a force-match attempt, but all the other numbers I can find match, as does the magazine, I believe.

Best I've found it was a Schutzpolizei police gun in Dusseldorf, and also did a tour with the Revierhauptmannschaft in Schleswig.

Can any of you gurus tell me anything else about it and what one in this condition would be valued at?

Thank you!

Evan,

Welcome to the forum. You have an interesting Luger. It was manufactured by DWM in 1921 in accordance with military specifications just before DWM's production of military Lugers was shut down by the Allies. The front strap markings were, successively, S.D.II.3.72. and S.D.II.1325. As you have deduced these markings are from the Schpo of the D¼sseldorf district, Command II. I believe Command II was located in the twin cities of Elberfeld and Barmen, just east of the city of D¼sseldorf. (It is now called Wuppertal.)

The gun probably was transferred from police service some time before 1934 as it does not have a sear safety. It apparently went to the unit represented on the back strap which I do not believe is police. I think SCH. R.187. represents a Schutztruppe unit but don't know much about these markings. Hopefully, someone else will know.

Evan and Don,

I think the SCH. R. is an incomplete and not to regulation marking for Scheissplatz (shooting range), which should be Sch.Pl. The R. probably desinates the town or location.

This is the only plausible translation that I can come up with at the moment. These can be puzzling at times.

Hi Ron,

I think you meant 'schiessplatz', 'scheissplatz' is ehm, a little rude in German, lol. (sh*thole) :)
