Well here's my answer to that...
 

I'm not in the USA (as of today). I'm in the Her Majesty's Crown Colony of Bermuda, where the Queen's English is spoken and spelled correctly. The correct English spelling is "offence". And anyway, it's common knowledge Americans cannot spell... just ask Hugh!

Hey, I spell it "offence" (I also spell center, "centre", defense, "defence", filter, "filtre", etc.) I'm the one whom started all this, so I guess I'm the final authority. Dig it?
