question about DWM Luger

Can someone tell me more about a DWM with serial 4985?
(what year, how many were made in that series, possible worth...)

I don't have it so I can't post pictures, but it's in very good condition, DWM mark on the toggle, not dated, 4'' barrel, 9x19mm and has all matching parts except the magazine. There are no letters after the serial number.

Luger76,

I am sure others more qualified will send you a reply, but pictures will be very helpful. Your gun could be a first German army first issue gun but we will need more information to tell. How the gun is marked (locations of the serial numbers and proof marks). Does it have a stock lug? If you can get who ever has it to take pictures, or go look at it and take some pictures or write up a much more detailed description it would be easier to answer your question.

Thanks,
Bob M.

The only new thing I found out is that it doesn't have serial number on the left side of the receiver, just under the barrel, I'm afraid that's it... :(

There should be a proof mark and or acceptance stamps on either the left or right side of the receiver. If they are there, what side are they on? Please describe them.

Is there a stock lug on the backstrap of the grip?

As I said, I didn't see the gun myself, my friend described it to me the best he could. He saw it at some womans house in the back country. She inherited it from her father and wouldn't sell it for nothing.
I thought that maybe the serial number could shed some light...

Well, I'll tell him that if he ever goes there again he should take some pictures.

The lack of date on the chamber indicates that it was made before 1910.
