Grip cleaning
To the membership:
I just read Art Buchanan's paper on cleaning/restoring grips. Dos anyone have any experience, comments, suggestions with his method? I don't want to damage a nice ( albeit varnished ) set of grips. Thanks, Mike:D |
I used his paint stripper method last year and the results were good. Right after they came out of the paint stripper they were very light in color but the grips were an even tone of light tan throughout. After several days of drying they started to darken up real nice but there was one spot that came up darker than the rest. I tried redoing the stripper but after several days the dark spot would reappear. I put the Pilkington Classic Red Brown Linseed stock rubbing oil on with a Q-tip and the grips literally only took a few drops of oil total (that stuff does spread quickly and easily). I am happy with the results, but I hope to send the grips to Hugh for a checkering touch up and professional refinishing someday.
Hope this helps, Chris |
