Are these real?

Are these Black Widow grips? They look exactly same as the one from this auction, including some of the inperfections. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...?Item=66710202
I'm a bit confused as mine do not have the fiberous look that I have observed in bakelite.
TIA

Sorry my friend, but these appear to me to be reproduction grips. The border around the edge is too wide, and the finish on the inside is not the quality you find in genuine bakelite grips of the period.

VIT,

If you are looking to buy, this pair now running on the France-side of eBay looks a lot more promising :

Hi all, this is a bad photo I took back in the fifties. I bought this luger from the vet that brought it back for forty dollars. Notice the gloss finish on the grip. Do any of the real grips that you collectors own have this finish? Luger was original when I got it. Being young and not knowing any better I had it reblued. Pistol was stolen over twenty years ago so no more pictures. John

Hi:

Lugers in the 50s were selling for $25.00 max.

Why did you pay $40.00 for a gun that needed reblued?

The "glossy" finish is normal... but it is not like modern plastic... the photo of the pair that were posted by Pete Ebbink appear genuine to me... notice the narrow-ness of the border, especially in the area of the safety lever... and the smooth finish of the interior surfaces... just things to look for...

Mac, The shiny finish of the uncheckered borders is a good indication of original grips, as most repros have dull borders from so many being cast from the same mold, but not foolproof. The weight of original BW grips is heavier than the current repros, being made with a more modern plastic. TH
