New Luger holsters?

I'm looking for a quality leather flap holster similar to the Bulgarian? or old Heiser holsters.

I'm not interested in any of the German hardshell repros that seem to be available everywhere these days.
I'd prefer a new or at least very good used holster.

Can anyone recommend a source? I'm willing to pay good money for a quality holster.

Thanks in advance.

Check out El Paso Saddlery at http://www.epsaddlery.com/ under the "military" heading. I can vouch for their quality.

Roland, I have a few well used original M08 Bulgarian holsters available in the $35 to $75 range. hellerarms@webtv.net

Roland, I just piced up a very nice German made holster for the Luger. It is in a nonGerman commercial style with a felt lining and extensive oakleaf pattern tooling. If you are interested at $200 let me know and I will send photos.

Thanks for the feedback all.
Ron, that 1900 holster is pretty much what i was looking for!
I notice I can get it without the "US" stamp as well.

I spoke with Gene Brown of Old Pueblo Leather, Tucson's local CAS gun rig maker about a custom Luger rig yesterday. He is going to make me one in the Mexican loop/Heiser style most likely - we are still looking at designs - plus suitable open topped dual mag pouch. The idea is to capture the Mexican Revolution/Pancho Villa look for use in the CAS "Wild Bunch" class, where Lugers are allowed. Any pictures that anyone has of Lugers in Mexican service with indigenous leather would be appreciated.

Old Pueblo will save any patterns they make, so anyone can order them later. They can be reached through Thunderstick Trading Co in Tucson (520) 290-8599.

Azlaw, I have a custom 6" .30 Luger which was built for varminting, and am looking for a nice open-top holster for it, for field use. Do you mind if I ask the price range for the holster and magazine pouch that you are going to have built?

Thanks much,
John

Old Pueblo holsters usually run about $50-$90 depending on many things - leather, tooling, dye, studding, conchos, lining, etc. Belts are a bit more, so a single holster rig is kinda-sorta starting at $150-$200 built to your size. The last rig I bought was a black lined belt with three fully lined holsters - Gene went nuts on the tooling and studding, so we ended up at about $450 in all if I remember right. I'm going to ask for something basic for the Luger, and he will probably go nuts on some tooling or treatment as usual, so I'll probably end up with a $300 or more bill, but his stuff has always been worth it. He knows he can get away with it with me.

I like Gene's basic brown Mexican loop stuff for field use. No lining, minimal tooling, just simple stuff. I carry half of an old two-belt CAS rig he made for me years ago as for horseback use with my Colt New Service. Make sure to order tie-downs for field use.

Not sure about cost on mag pouches, he's been making them for 1911s for awhile to go with the Heiser style 1911 holsters that he offers.

Thanks, Azlaw, for the good information! If you happen to think of it, we'd love to see photos when you get it!

WOW, Pete, that is COOL!!!! Thanks! If you don't mind, I may save that photo and provide it to a holster maker to see if they can do something similar.

Thanks!
John

Hi John,

No problem...hope you get good use out of the photos.

BTW...I got this holster on eBay a year or so back...think I won it for $ 125 or maybe a bit higher.

I think I won on a slow week...

I am looking for a good Luger holster too. My commercial 7.65mm has a front sight that won't fit in a normal hardshell.
Anyone tried to make room for a high front sight?

azlaw 05-15-2007 02:37 AM

My Luger went off to Old Pueblo today, along with photos of a Audley holster and a few other holster pictures. Should have the rig back in a few weeks, depending on how busy they are. Will post pics when I get it.
