Parkerized Lugers

Hi:

In 1968, at the age of 12, I remember seeing a Mauser Luger that was Parkerized grey green. Was this an original finish? Does anyone have one they can show here?

Sieger,

The Portuguese contract pieces from '42, I believe, were the only ones that were parked originally.

This ties in with another discussion. I worked in a service station back in the 1960s that the owner, a WW II vet, kept a Walther P38. The P38 was parkerized too, but the owner told me that he had that done to it when he was still in the service. So perhaps the Luger you saw had also been a war trophy that a GI had parkerized?

I don't think so. The gentleman got it as a present from his GI brother.

I've seen Finnish Lugers which appear to have been phosphated.

A few Reno shows ago an otherwise good-looking Navy Luger showed up which had been phosphated a lovely sea-green. Ralph Shattuck snapped it up.
