Long range shooting
 

Is there somebody who knows something about long range shooting whit LP.08. Maybe a member has done it whit his LP.08? I will be happy if I could get a rapport about this subject.

I have a 1937 S/42 which has been rebuilt to a Navy Luger configuration. I've shot it at 200 yards with a stock attached. It was extremely accurate at that range. I could easily hit a target the size of a soccor ball at that distance , shooting it standing up, off-hand.


Jes, Just a minor correction, not meant to offend. Your English is far superior to my Danish, but "scooting" in English means to slide along on your rear-end. "Shooting" is to fire a gun. ;)

Interesting that you hit on 200 yards (same as 183 meters) very good shooting!

I wish I could find a 200-yard range to shoot my LP08 & C96. The best I can find is 100 yards. Jerry Burney & Jack Hiles write of shooting theirs out to 300 yards in Arizona. My Arty needs a bit of Kentuky windage to get on target but it is consistant to the range I have shot it.

Last summer, I placed three floating targets on a lake at 200m (219yards), 400m (437yards) and even 800m (875 yards).
I got the idea when I was placing my fishing nets.. With a GPS in my pocket, I placed them so that they where in the right distance up towards a hill and had a totaly safe background (+ left and right side of the targets).

I tried the targets with my arty, and where amazed over how close I actually hit at those ranges! I shot mostly one handed without the stock, it reminded me of throwing rocks towards a stick as a kid.. wich abviosly still is great fun:)
With unlimited time and 9mm rounds.. anything is possible;)

The water was very still.. so it was easy to spot the impact some two/three seconds later at 800m.
But shooting towards water like this can be a somewhat spooky, the bullets can reflect into some weird angels and still have enough punch in them to cause damage. So a totaly safe background is needed for this type of fun.

Morgan interesting rapport of your shooting (remember) on
a Norwegian lake, I envies you the wide open spaces in your country.
Maybe somebody knows some thing about test firing of the LP.08 back in 1913-14?
