White painted stamps/marks?
Hey guys,
I got another newbie question here. I know it is probally stupid, but why do some lugers have white painted marks/stamps. Like, some are just stamped with proof marks or numbers that are just plain and some have white inside each mark. I'm really tired now so my paragraph is probally poorly worded, but if you can understand what I am trying to say please let me know. |
Ryan,
The marks are white because some folks like to make the markings stand out so it's easier to read them. Some think it looks good, others think it looks lousy. The only marking that should have white color is the safety marking gesichert. Folks use different substances to whiten the markings: chalk, grease pencils, paint, or brownells has what is called a laquer stik http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/sto...spx?p=7778&s=. Hope this answers your question. Tom |
Hi Tom.
Your link doesn't seem to work. This one does. ;) Laquer Stik I'm also thinking about highlighting the marks on my P08. Peet. |
One word of warning. Often boosters will fill the stamps with one of the substances noted by Tom. In order to cover evidence of engraved markings rather than stamped, which would give it away as being faked or boosted .
