FOUND someone to reblue my "new" Luger
Dear Forum,
I have my "short list." Many thanks for the suggestions and private messages. Some of you do some pretty good work, I'm impressed! Dave in TN. |
Tac,
Don't think I didn't consider Thor. Considering that he's had some personal problems recently which have caused clients excessive wait times, I think I'll pass on him until I'm convinced he's back to 100%. Dave in TN. |
Charles Danner in Fayetteville Tennessee. It's been years since he did any bluing for me but I think he is still working. Not quite as good as Ted Green but passable for a shooter.

HI PETEM
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP, BOB |
Bob,
I checked with Bill Adair about 2 weeks ago. His back-log run about 6 mos. and he requires the gun to be there. Grips and magazine can stay at your place. He quoted a ball-park price for me on an 1913 Erfurt shooter...around $ 380 rust blue and straw. Final price is nailed done when he sees your piece in person and can gauge pitting conditions, etc. and if any stampings need to be touched-up...etc. He will give you a final price before he starts the work. Payment is not due until he is ready to send it back. I suspect most of the busy restoration artist want to have your gun in the shop and they may decide to work on yours when other guns, similar to yours, may be in the shop at the same time and all can be worked on in small batches. p.s. Another fellow to look into might be Art Buchanan. I think he lives in MO State, but I am not sure if he is taking new work or not...nor his fees for work. |
ERIC, ESQ, I saw teds work in person. Hes the only one I would trust to touch or repair your finest gun, And He is reasonable and prompt,
|
All,
Art is semi retired. It would take a lot to get him back into doing restoration jobs, IMHO. I have had satisfactory service with Bill Adair. Seems like this is a field a young guy coulld get into, study under a master and then perpetuate the trade...lot like it was done in Europe Tom A. |
Bill Adair has refinished two guns for me and I would use him again.
